How much is it to tune my car?
Not unsurprisingly one of the first questions I'm asked is.....what do you charge?
How much is it to tune my car?
The key factor involved in answering this question is.......TIME!
In the 30 to 60 years since your car was first built, there's usually been many hands which have worked upon it. Including many amateurs, good professionals...not so good professionals.....the late night decisions which somehow worked, some which didn't and are hidden behind sticky tape.....etc etc
Oh, and lets not forget the good old mate who turns out to be....'the man who can't, but thought he could!'.------------
To make life simple for both you and I, my charges are applied on an hourly basis.
A) Normal regular Working time, midweek @ £65/hr......
(Weekends +25% = £81.25/hr)
B) Travel time, on a return basis, midweek @ £50/hr (If required....see page regarding MOBILE SUPPORT).....
(Weekends + 25% = £62.50/hr)
C) Priority booking rate - (In brief this is a rate for clients who simply don't want to wait because they need their car doing with urgency!)
Explanation - Normally I try to pair jobs together whilst in similar locations, in order to efficiently create a full working day of work. As much as I appreciate the 2 or 3 hours work on your car, I'm sure you'll understand that I'd prefer to have a full 6, 7 or 8 hours of work via 2 or 3 jobs if necessary. However, it does mean that you may have to wait until the second/third booking is found and co-ordinated for the same day as per your own location and availability.
However, sometimes waiting doesn't suit everyone. Hence, you have the option to make a 'Priority Booking'.
C-i) 'Priority booking' at the rate of £350 per 1/2 day (9am to 12.30pm....approx 3.5hrs),
C-ii) 'Priority booking' of a full day booking at £700 (9am to 5pm.....approx 8 hrs)...
Note ('Ci' and 'Cii' are.....plus travel time!)
D)
Training / consultancy packages
also available (1 to 10 people)........pricing on arrangement.
This includes those, who wish to ask 101 questions whilst furiously making notes hoping it will enable themselves to tune their car next time. And of course those, who somehow feel it's normal to stand a video record everything I do, with the intention of doing the very same.....yes it qualifies as producing a self training video!
E) Report Writing - £65/hr - If you require a receipt, absolutely no problem at all. However, requesting a written report is entirely different. Quite often 'after' paying for a car tuning a client will often ask. 'Oh...and can you write me a report on everything your found, done, set and all changes applied I want it to go with the records on my car?'. Not an unreasonable request, but let me explain why it is chargeable.
For obvious reasons, my head is under a bonnet all day, I'm not at a desk or by a keyboard....thus leaving only my own private time to write such a report. I do value my private time, perhaps even more than my work time.....if you want me to use it to write a report for you for your records, unfortunately I can't just give it away for free....the time required is chargeable.
What is a training/consultancy package and why is it chargeable?
Before, during, after......and in general, I receive a whole host of questions from classic car owners.
As already mentioned, during the working day my head is under a bonnet somewhere. So the only time available to give such a reply is 'outside' normal working hours, during my evenings and my weekends. Hopefully, it's no surprise to you that I do value this time and can't simply give it up for free.....which profession do you expect to offer free advice and explanations at 8, 9, 10pm??
- What plugs should I use?...What's your thoughts on X, X, Z.... My cars doing A,B & C what do you think it is?...and how can I sort it?........Watch the attached video and what do you think that noise is?
........it really is an endless list.
To the sender, it's just a simple question. To the person expected to reply (me!!) it can eat time quicker than you can imagine, and of course one message simply leads to another.
Now multiply this scenario by 300 or so people each year.......at 10 or 20 mins each for the simplest of advice given.
Hopefully you can respect the point being made......Thank you!
Cancellation Policy
As anyone running a business will tell you, when a booking is cancelled at short notice, the customer rarely thinks.... 'what does my cancellation actually means for the business involved?'
The reality is that a business which is busy in general, often doesn't have enough time available to then try and backfill to cover the cancellation. The outcome is that there a high likelihood of the timeslot, or even the full working day, being written off and of zero income for the day. Not great for any business, of any type!
So please give me as much notice as possible, it is very much appreciated. I do reserve the right to request a none refundable deposit, especially for any future bookings placed following a cancellation
Payment Forms accepted
I generally carry a mobile card payment machine with me and payment forms accepted at the time of tuning:-
a) Bank Card / Credit Card
b) Bank Transfer,
c) Cash,
(See....the 'Mobile Support' page on this website for info regarding sharing/splitting travel costs.)
