Background and history of

AG Classic Car Tuning?

So, firstly and fore mostly my name is Andrew Grabowski and hence that's where the 'AG' comes from in the business name.  Most of my clients, 'now friend's simply know me as Andrew!

The beginning

- I grew up in an engineering household, with a passion for 'all' engineered challenges including classic cars and classic motorcycles.  With certain engineering and fabrication skillsets already held and claimed by my Father and elder brother, my focus became more of a diagnostic angle.  Hence whilst my brother and father were repairing, fabricating and machining whatever was required, it was my task to work out why a classic car wasn't running well, if at all, and then determine how it could be brought back to life and/or made to run well.  This was at 12 or 13 years old.

The 'Teen' Years

By the time I was 15 years old, I had been encouraged to by my first car.....a 1976 classic mini.  The basic idea was that if I bought it from a 'breakers yard', then by the time I was 17 and old enough to drive, I would have restored the car and know enough about it to repair any breakdowns which then occurred.

Everything went ahead as planned, and by the end of my first driving year I was on my third full engine, second self built replacement cylinder head upgrade, 6th or 7th carb swap, exhaust, air-filters, distributors and countless front end replacements & resprays for when I'd run out of road or driving skills.  These kind of things were all a normal part of a young lad growing up back in the day!!!

By the time I was 18 or 19, my brother and I had spare mini engines in subframes ready for the mini shell to be 'walked over' and refitted.  2 or 3 hours, or a good Saturday morning was all it took.

After owning and modifying and re-shelling a few more 1275 GT's, Coopers, Metro's, MG Metro's, MG Metro Turbo's and various other makes and models it wasn't long before the reputation started to spread.  If you want you car tuning, servicing modifying or simply puzzling through why it's misbehaving......take it to Andrew.

Utilising an Engineering mind in multiple Industries

At 18 years old I went to work for an oil company, and became involved in formulating specialist lubricating oils, for marine propulsion systems, side thrusters & stabilisers and industrial scale textile machinery.

Within a short period of time it was soon noted that I was able to walk around various machinery types and quickly understand the technical principles used, and allowing them to operate.  Then further understand what performance criteria & properties were required from a lubrication perspective.  After only a couple of years I was much more use to the company in a technical support role, than I was in a lab testing environment.  Again, it quickly became a case of.... send Andrew, if needs be he'll strip the machinery down, identify the cause of any issues and remedy them if at all possible.

In the years that followed these skills took me around the world for various International engineering companies, in the management of new business development teams in the UK and fully world wide........marine, steam/gas/nuclear/geothermal/wind power generation, automotive, rail, offshore, chemical, construction, paper, food, water and various other industry types.  However my heart remained with my first real interest of tuning classic car engines.....carburettors, distributors etc etc.

Time for a change, & time to do something I love

In the midst of 2021, I was increasingly becoming tired of working for my then employer and our differences continued to grow.  Meanwhile, in the background I had always continued with my love of classic vehicles, and in many ways myself and family had only gone from strength to strength as the 'go to' problem solvers.....classic cars, classic bikes, and in-between hybrids of the both.

So, I parted ways with my employer and set up my own business doing something I'd always loved and enjoyed.........diagnosing and tuning classic cars.   You could rightly say that I followed my dream....and here we are.

They say if you're doing something that you love and enjoy,

a)  You'll always give it your best shot.

b) It's as close as anyone will realistically get towards never working a day in their life!!
