The below example is an E-Type Jaguar Series 3, 5.3 litre V12. The approach taken is exactly the same as that with the 1275 mini shown previously, however with 3 more carbs, 8 more plugs and a whole lot of balancing and synchronising. But.....it all starts with the same key health checks and baseline tuning of all the key fuelling, carburation and ignition components.
The owner had recently bought this car and wanted AG Classic car tuning to give it a check over to make sure everything was in good healthy order, and then tune the car for smoothness and optimisation. As you'll see in the first video, if you watch the rpm gauge there was a very slight missed heart beat, which we got to the bottom of the cause during our baseline checks. Of course in the second video it runs far smoother and the missed beat is gone.
Within the baseline checks of this classic V12 we also found that the Stromberg hydraulically press fit Jet heights were out of the recommended idle control range, and hence whilst we were able to set up the engine pretty well, until rectified the engine would never run at it's absolute best. For the summer season ahead it's 'good enough' and won't cause any issues, however this owner strives for perfection and when returned back to AG classic Car tuning the Stromberg carbs will be removed and jet height adjustments will be made.
