Jaguar XK140 (Tuning) by AG Classic Car Tuning
The Jaguar XK140 (1954 - 1957)
The Jaguar XK140 was an iconic car of it's day and reading the dedicated wiki page will explain far more than I ever could.
This fantastic example had been with its owner for 20+ years and can regularly be seen at the Harewood Hill climb event on the outskirts of Leeds
As per any tuning work that I undertake its all starts from setting the right foundations and whilst checking that the engine respond in the correct manner. This particular example had a been a 'devil' to start at times, which of course can point towards the known troublesome SU Aux Carb and rightfully did. Both the solenoid and actuator of the Jaguar Aux carb needed some love and attention. In addition the ignition timing was slightly retarded and both the jets and needles showed moderate signs of corrosion, most likely from modern ethanol based fuels. The fuel tank on this Jaguar XK140 had fortunately been 'lined' recently as was in good order and clean.
So.....what did we do?
The Aux carb was cleaned and fully overhauled, including a new actuator and solenoid which had to be wired in correctly. The twin H6 TH carbs were fully overhauled, rebuilt and reinstalled and of course balanced and set by CO% gas emission verification. The ignition timing was set correctly at idle and then checked at further mechanical advance stages to ensure it was within spec. Ignition points were set and checked by dwell angle, and accompanied by the correct 12v sports coil. All flexible fuel pipes were replaced with new ethanol tolerant Gates grade 3225. a new inline serviceable fuel filter was installed. New NGK BP5ES plugs installed and correctly gapped to 0.025"......plus a few additional tweaks here and there to accomodate the vehicles age.
The outcome is a Jaguar XK140 which puuurrrrss like it's design intended.
