MG Metro Turbo MK1 - Tuning
The first MG Metro Turbo that I owned was back in the early 1990's and was an 'F' registered that I/we fully re-shelled. Since which I've worked on quite a few 'A' series Turbo charged engines, including this rare example of an MG Metro Turbo here.
As ever, I went through my normal procedure of checking all the fundamentals needed for the engine to run, and start up safely. A an early and key signal for me was the current condition of the spark plugs as fitted on arrival. Firstly they weren't the correct heat rating for the engine, (they much prefer a '7' rating) and they were strongly discoloured.
Anyway as ever I went through everything in detail, swapped out the old worn MG Metro Turbo needle profile #BDD for a new profile, and started her up.
After getting all aspects of the MG Metro Turbo's fuelling and ignition into the correct ball park. I could then check the distributors mechanical advance curve in the 'none' standard distributor as fitted. Time to tweak and dial it in.....all good!
As soon that sun starts to shine again, the owner of this classic MG Metro Turbo is looking forward to hitting the road again........and knowing how it was set originally, compared to how it's set now....there will be big smiles involved!!
