1964 MK1 Mustang 289ci
This early 1964 MK1 Mustang is thought to be 'The Oldest in the UK' and potentially one of the oldest in the world.
On arrival the owner told me that he's owned a similar car in the past and this one seemed to have slightly less power, and seemed a little heavier on petrol than expected. The list of what we found, was quite lengthy and nothing serious....just all the normal typical things which I find on all makes and models daily.
The first step was to find out what was going on with the ignition timing. Using a strobe and numerous other methods the ignition timing was clearly out of spec and was soon corrected, however the carburettor on the other hand clearly needed a bit of TLC and a full overhaul.
Needless to say both externally and internally the carb was in far better condition once refitted to this beautiful old Mustang when refitted.
Of more importance is of course how did it sound after the carb was refitted, set up correctly and tuned to the vehicle. Have a listen for yourself in the below video.
