Triumph GT6 (Tuning) by AG Classic Car Tuning
The Triumph Triumph GT6
Firstly, my apologies regarding the photo. This Triumph GT6 is not pink! Instead it's a lovely rich, deep and vibrant red colour. Lighting and a cold damp winters day spoiled a good photo....
As an affordable classic sports car, there's something I quite like about the Triumph GT6, making it a pleasure each time I have one booked in to tune. Originally built between 1966-1973, with a claimed 95 to 104bhp depending on which year/mk was bought.
The example shown here had recently undergone a full engine build, and the owner contacted me at a classic car show/event in North Yorkshire. After the owner set the car up to the best they could, it still wasn't right, and hence they booked AG Classic Car Tuning in to take a look over and tune this lovely Triumph GT6.
So the GT6 ignition timing was set by AG and the advance 'plot' uploaded to the CSI Bluetooth distributor. All other factors were set to the correct position from which to be tuned, however gas emissions were still very much on the 'high' side.
A wrong sized jet had been installed 0.01" instead of a 0.09" to suit the 0.09" based needle profile. The correct course of action was taken to check all other factors which influence the correct function of the carbs......basically a full strip, clean, overhaul and rebuild. After which we were back in business and ready to tune this Triumph GT6.
So.....
Carburettors were checked set and tuned accordingly, on choke/fast idle, normal idle and through the rpm range.
Carburettor needle was upgraded/changed to better suit the build spec.
Ignition plot was created and uploaded to the CSI Bluetooth distributor.
Ignition timing was was set dynamically at idle, so the plot worked from the correct base reference position.
Spark plugs removed, cleaned and re-gapped.
Ignition coil was health checked, both primary and secondary values.
Brand new HT leads were found to be faulty and replaced........yes brand new and faulty!!
Battery voltage tested static, and dynamic.
Bores visually inspected by borescope.
.....and lots of other tests too!
As a separate note the inlet manifold and inlet ports had been opened to assist with mid and upper rpms. Hence, it was tuned accordingly to help with 'actual' gas speeds during the lower rpms.
Result is an engine running well with all key fundamentals checked, adjusted where necessary and ready for the owner to enjoy.
