The Volvo Amazon 1956 -1970
As an affordable classic car I do like the Volvo Amazon due to its simplicity and robust build quality.
This fantastic example had recently been purchased by the owner and he wanted it checking over for good measure, before venturing a few additional miles further from home. So what did I find??
As you can see in the above picture this Volvo Amazon still retained the original twin HS6 SU carburettors, however also had a few subtle upgrades such as a DLB105 sports coil, 123 electronic ignition distributor, alternator, period freeflow air filters and a sports exhaust system.
So.....what was the main aspect of work carried out
The first task was that the correct ignition curve was chosen for the car engine and year. (I can't recall if it was curve 3
or not). The idle position was then optimised to suit key advance stages of the ignition curve. New NGK BP6ES were gapped correctly and installed. Carbs were inspected and to be fair the needles (#KN) did look a little worn which was later proven by the exhaust gas analysis and hence replaced. New viton tipped needle valves were fitted to the float bowls and the engine was then tuned accordingly.......what a lovely little runner!!
A lovely classic Volvo for the owner now to enjoy and bravely venture that bit further to many of the regional shows in and around Yorkshire.
