1960's ZAZ 965 (Zaporozhets)
Quite openly speaking when the owner booked this car in with us, I had to do some research to find out exactly what it was. On arrival I instantly took a liking to it because it had a certain honesty and character about it. Sat in the back was a 746cc air-cooled V4 engine, and it was a pleasure to work on this superb little car.
As ever the ignition was tested and set to baseline fingers for this engine, and then it was time to look at the Weber 32 IBSA as normally fitted to a little Scimca but of course needing a little tweak here and there to work as a none specified carb for this ZAZ 965.
With very little data at hand we timed the car's ignition timing statically first. Then dynamically by strobe, and verified by inlet vacuum pressure readings before completing the final idle mixture optimisation process. As said earlier a lovely car to work on.
It's very easy for owners to lose a bit of the love held for their classic when they aren't running the way they should. For me it's then such an enjoyable pleasure of my work to see owners faces light up after a test drive of their 'newly' tuned car and take a step towards regaining trust in their car.
Again many thanks to this car owner for choosing to enlist the support of AG Car Tuning to help set up this little car and from the review and feedback received after it seems like we did a pretty good job. Great to hear
