14th Sept Tuning Day......what did we do and find? (Cars above)
As the next working week approaches it's time to reflect on a great weekend together with the Auto Lass Workshops team and the cars tuned.... Here's a quick rundown.
Daimler 250 V8, all the normal issues including fuelling and ignition timing out. However, key issue.... Accuspark ignition module failing when hot.
MK1 Mustang, carb removed.. overhauled refitted, ignition timing reset and fuelling set.
V12 Etype Jaguar, ignition timing out, 2 carbs not presenting fuel at idle...all sorted now.
MK3 mini cooper 'S' 1310 Kent 286, ignition timing retarded, tdc markings wrong, wrong HS4 carb needles, distributor not engaged properly.
MK2 RS Custom performance cam, ignition timing over advanced, 45 DCOE's poorly set up internally out of balance, failing plugs and HT leads.
All sorted by the combined team of AG Classic Car Tuning and Auto Lass Workshops. Not only running better, but also potentially saved from internal engine damage.
Job done!!

What classic cars does AG Classic Car Tuning health check and tune?
Introduction
Thank you for visiting the website for AG Classic Car Tuning. I am a professional 'mobile' classic car tuner based in the North of England. Each year I go out to people homes, lock ups and workplaces to carry out 'old school' type of tuning of carburretors, distributors and ignition systems on classic cars of all makes and models.
From within this website you'll find examples ranging from little air cooled Fiats, VW's and Porsche's... Classic Mini's, MGB's, Volvo's, Fords, Lotus, Triumph, Alfa's....etc etc.....all the way through to TR6's, straight 6 Jaguars and big V8 Rovers, Aston Martins, Mustangs, Rolls Royces and V12 Jaguars......and of course all the wonderful makes and models in between.
The general range I cover includes all makes and models from the early 1920's to the mid 1990's. Basically cars where a human...'Me'...sets the ignition, fuelling and tuning in general.......rather than a computer controlled ECU.

The below is a Triumph TR6 running triple 45 DCOE Webers. On arrival it was particularly grumpy and I was called out to find out why, and then tune/set it to how it should be. Initially it was popping, backfiring and generally lack lustre. So I very quickly put the ignition timing into the right ball park, and then started the health check and tuning process. As well as the carbs being badly set, this example was running a completely wrong coil. Below is a video taken very near the end of my health check and tuning process when I was checking throttle response given by the 45DCOE's. Most TR6 triple Weber kits utilise the smaller 40 DCOE Webers, and I wanted to make sure that the bigger 45's were as optimised as possible and then weren't bogging down/overwhelming the engine with sudden wide throttle openings. Enjoy the two videos below. The first video is a V12 Jaguar equipped with 4 Zenith Stromberg CD175 carburettors. The car had been stood for perhaps 7 or 8 years and Andrew from AG Classic Car Tuning was asked to find out the source of the petrol smell, get it running again and make it run and sound like a V12 Jaguar should.
NewAnother classic name of the 1960's and 70's is of course Triumph and perhaps the most common which we see is the 6 cylinder TR6 2.5 (Pi) and occasionally the Carb versions too. Here's one of the many which we helped out during 2022. 2 video's this time....first video is on arrival just listen to how lumpy and grumpy she is. Second video is after setting the fuel injection pump correctly, timing in the ignition plus setting and balancing the throttle bodies correctly also. They sound like 2 different cars!! Paragraph

This 1967 Karman Ghia is one which a restoration company called me to provide some specialist support with the twin IDF 36 Weber carburation, and ignition timing. Initially it was popping, spitting, backfiring and refused to idle smoothly. After identifying that the carbs were wrongly drawing air in via the head/inlet gasket and also inlet to carb gaskets, plus the carb float levels were set wrongly. The engine could then be tuned correctly, and as you can hear it now ticked over beautifully at idle. No popping, no spitting and a at constant rpm....New Paragraph
